Are You Interested?

A lot of times, good or bad, I tend to go on a bit of a thinking spree after having a melt down or emotional crash.

This time, I found my way to a really interesting blog post (that I'll share the link to if I ever find it again). The post was about the misconceptions around living an "easy" life and why that is ironic and kind of paradoxical. But I'm not focusing on that topic - at least not today :).

There was one sentence that really stuck out to me from that other article. A lady was asked why she was so consistently positive and full of life in general. Her reply was, "life is just so interesting!"

I found that reply very interesting (pun intended).

And it got me to thinking, how much better life is when we take an active interest in it.

I don't know about you, but between the monotony of routines, financial struggles, and an un-ideal life, I've found myself slipping into a sort of automated copilot when it comes to living my own life. Going through the motions, but at the end of the day having trouble remembering what I actually did. Which, is not how I intend to live my life.

There are lots of times and reasons why we can fall into automated living, but don't stay there.

Are you willing to take an interest in your own life and in life in general?

Because like that lady exclaimed, as soon as you deliberately and intentionally start looking for things to be interested in, life becomes just so interesting.

Interesting might be good or bad or happy or painful, but it's your life. You might as well take an interest in it, right?

Though I don't think it has to be so dramatic as all that. Interest can be as simple as paying attention to the scenery when you take a walk or asking about the book your roomate's reading, or looking up an ingredient you don't recognie in a dish.

Interesting things are everywhere, if you look for them. And when you see them, how you react is just as telling.

When you look up a new type of tea, do you go, "Huh, purple tea. Great. When will I ever need to know that that exists, what a waste of time, etc." or do you go "Huh, purple tea! Wow, that's so cool that there's a purple tea. I didn't even know that existed. Maybe I'll make a post about it or share it with my friend!"

It's a choice. And I think it's better to be interested and to foster an interest in your own life.

Interests fosters curiosity, which leads to excitement, enthusiasm, motivation, and even a greater sense of well-being and awe for the world.

Don't let living suck the wonder out of your life. Look for things to be excited and interested about. The more you look, the more you find and I think this is one small, easy way to even shift your perspective, mindset, and world view.

What are you interested in, right now?
